Our Program Philosophy

One of the most common questions we receive is how our puppy selection and placement process works.

From the moment a breeding is planned, through whelping day, and during the first eight weeks of life, we are actively involved with every puppy. This gives us the unique opportunity to learn each puppy's individual personality, temperament, confidence level, drive, and overall characteristics.

While we greatly value our clients' input and understand that families may be drawn to certain puppies based on photos, videos, color, or markings, we believe that our responsibility as a breeder is to make placement decisions based on the long-term success of both the puppy and its future family.

Throughout their development, our puppies are exposed to a variety of experiences and evaluations. They are handled daily from birth, introduced to different environments, observed around children, and undergo Volhard Puppy Aptitude Testing between 42 and 49 days of age. These assessments, combined with our daily observations, help us gain a comprehensive understanding of each puppy's strengths and natural tendencies.

Our goal is to match each puppy with the family, lifestyle, and purpose that best suits them. We strive to create successful, lifelong partnerships by placing puppies where they will thrive.  It is important to understand that color and appearance do not determine temperament, drive, trainability, or personality. A puppy's value lies in who they are, not in the color of their coat. For this reason, our placement decisions are based on temperament, suitability, and purpose rather than appearance.

In some cases, puppies may be prioritized for specific working roles, such as service dog placements, scent detection work, therapy work, hunting homes, search and recovery, or other performance and working careers where specific temperaments, drives, and characteristics are essential. These puppies are evaluated carefully to ensure they possess the traits necessary to succeed in their intended roles. Placement decisions are always made with the best interests of both the puppy and its future owner in mind, helping to create successful partnerships that allow each dog to reach its full potential.

Our commitment has always been to put the well-being of our dogs first. If color or price is the primary factor in selecting a puppy, our program may not be the best fit. We are dedicated to producing and placing dogs based on quality, temperament, purpose, and lifelong success.
